General Hospital

Bonnie reminded me yesterday that I haven't updated my blog in a super long time. Apparently, millions of people are waiting to hear what I have to say. My old lady roommate recently ordered us a DVR, a device which I have been known to "poo-poo" on several occasions. I have a confession, I LOVE IT!

Have you ever watched Jeopardy! on DVR? It's amazing. You can skip through all of the commercials, plus the part of the show when the contestants talk about the funny things they've been up to. Awesome.

Most importantly, DVR has allowed me to catch up on my most beloved soap opera, General Hospital. For those of you who have never watched it, I ask one question: Why not?

Megan got me into GH during High School. Back then, Lucky had been kidnapped and brainwashed by his grandmother, Helena. This was when I was first introduced to my favorite character at the time, Jax. His plotline involved him being married to Alexis. I seem to think it was a convenience marriage. Alexis was in love with Ned who was married to the woman that Jax loved. It was amazing.

I stopped watching GH for a couple of years. Then, thanks to Michele and Rachel, I found GH again my last year of college. Sonny Corinthos and Carly were in a love-hate relationship. Michael was a hideously ugly child, and they had downgraded both Lucky and Emily. I stopped watching after awhile.

What's nice about the soap opera is that you can go years without watching it and catch yourself up in about one week of viewing. The cycle of love/marriage/bitter divorce is pretty easy to follow. The hardest thing to keep up with is the new people that have come to Port Charles.

If you are on the fence about GH, there are several reasons why you should probably start watching.

1. Sonny Corinthos: He may or may not be the head of the mob in Port Charles. His life is one of danger. He is also a man-whore who impregnates EVERY woman he sleeps with. (Seriously, he has at LEAST four children from four different people.) Sonny may live a dangerous life, but he has a heart of gold.

2. Only in soap opera world can they bring back the same actor to play a completely different role and nobody cares. Old Carly is now a person named Claudia...and she is married to Sonny. It's weird because when she played Carly, she was also married to Sonny.

3. Jason Morgan. Could this man's biceps get any bigger? I think he may be on steroids. But he is pretty enjoyable. Even though he is pretty serious about his job as lead "hitman" in Sonny's mob.

4. No one ever really leaves GH. If you loved a certain character and they were written off the show, even if they were killed, they will return in some form later on. It might even take a decade or so, but they will always come back. Emily, who died of cancer a few years ago, is back. But this time, she some other chick who was Emily's twin sister. They were separated at birth.

There are so many other reasons to love this show. But I'm tired and have to work in the morning. Luckily, I won't miss tomorrow's episode thanks to my DVR.

You know what I love about Soap Operahs? Well how they have these kids, right... and then the kids are magically the same age as the adults, and it ONLY TAKES ABOUT FOUR YEARS. And the old people rarely get older... and when they do they just wheel them out every now and again to say something wise because no one remembers that just a few short years ago gma was a slutty tramp as well. If only LIFE could be like that.
